The only question is… how cheap can you get?

Get on down to the super sound at the Junkyard Social Club’s Friday Happy Hour on Friday, February 6. This month Duck La Rock is joined by guest DJs Niklii and Druubiidoo of Turntable Tuesday at Vision Quest Brewing for an all-vinyl session.
Aside from its OG aesthetic, playing vinyl can help give new DJs a more tactile or embodied understanding of how we play and manipulate recorded sound in real time than using a digital controler might. “The medium us the message.” – M. McLuhan
As at our last party, we’ll be set up at one of the Junkyard’s big wooden tables with chairs and space to hang out, talk, and watch the DJs do their thing.
An all-vinyl set by the Superstar DJ Duck La Rock recorded live on KGNU Community Radio‘s Afternoon Sound Alternative at Paradise Found Records in Boulder, Colorado. (January 22, 2026)

Duck La Rock’s real name is Pete Welsch. His program of DJ instruction centers on the idea that anybody can be a DJ and frames the act of DJing as one of service.
We start with selecting music to suit a mood, adding those songs to playlists, and how to play those songs one after another using the controller and software (eg Numark DJ2GO2 and Serato DJ Lite).
With this in hand, we proceed to the fundamentals of beat-matching (finding the beat, counting bars, and simple controller techniques like the use of the control platter, pitch controls, and cue points) and other techniques. Students then have the opportunity to play and record sets using the playlists and techniques that they’ve developed.
Pete has been a DJ for nearly 30 years and plays frequently at events in Boulder, CO and the Front Range. He is a regular host of KGNU Community Radio’s morning and afternoon music programming and is a DJ and announcer at cycling events for Without Limits Productions.
He has taught many friends to DJ informally. His classroom instruction experience includes a required 300-level technology course while pursuing my MLS / MIS at IU Bloomington (2005), teaching computer and network basics, including Unix and HTML.
