The 2525 Sessions return to the Junkyard Social Club on Friday, April 11 from 4;6pm! It’s Boulder’s finest family friendly happy hour, y’all.
2525 Sessions @ Junkyard Social Club Friday, April 11 from 4:00 to 6:00pm featuring our guest DJ
Antonette (Body Music, Faded Fridays Crew)
and your host, Duck La Rock.
Grown ups get $1 off beer from the Junkyard’s cafe, or you can enjoy wine, cocktails, coffee, or tea while catching up with friends and letting the kids run around and go crazy.
Just a few weeks before COVID shut down the country, my wife Liz and I took our 7 and 9 year old daughters to the 50th Anniversary of The Loft, the iconic invitation-only party that contributed to the rise of disco, hip hop, and house music.
Since its founding four months before Stonewall, attendees of The Loft have come from different classes and backgrounds, with about 60% being black and 70% gay, and a radical egalitarianism.
The Loft is non-profit and has never held a liquor license. Once inside, you don’t pay for the coat check. A buffet meal is served at some point, and water, lemonade, fruit, and snacks are available throughout.
David Mancuso, The Loft’s founder, explained that he, “wanted a situation where there are no economic barriers, meaning somebody who didn’t eat that day or only has a few dollars in his pocket can eat like a king. […] There’s no difference if you have a lot of money, or a little.”
In the face of today’s challenges, building genuinely diverse, positive, vibrant, and resilient communities is one of our most urgent tasks. I think The Loft presents one practical model to adopt practices from.
We’re glad to announce that Duck La Rock will be DJing at this year’s Old Man Winter Bike Rally & Run in Lyons, CO on February 2! It’s a fun scene up there with hundreds of trail runners and gravel cyclists either setting off on an epic adventure in the hills or celebrating after a hard fought race with beer and chili. We’re pay head to provide the soundtrack. Bring the fam!
Thank you so much to all who came to Cheap Date this past Saturday; I hope you had as much fun as I did. Someone I deeply admire as a DJ and host, David Mancuso of The Loft, used to say that everybody at the party, makes the party. Y’all made it truly special. Thank you.
In addition, many thanks for helping to our dear friends at Alaya Preschool save a truly magical school from redevelopment. If you haven’t, give ’em a hand: SaveAlaya.org!
Boulder’s preeminent family friendly happy hour returns to the Junkyard Social Club on December 27th!

Get the kids out of the house and chill to the sounds of our guest DJ, mark.vm (Faded Fridays, Boulder) and your host, the one and only Duck La Rock (Red Tail Sound, Boulder).
Grown ups, it’s $1 off beer from 4-6! The Junkyard has a lovely selection.
A snowy morning at home marking BPMs on a bunch of records that I recently dug out of storage. I hit record and mixed for about 45 minutes before I came to a record I didn’t like! Enjoy.
